Rockhampton Regional Waste and Recycling has given the green light for accepting unwanted paint disposals again, effective immediately.
After a brief pause on the disposals, Waste and Recycling Councillor Shane Latcham is pleased to advise that the Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility (LCRWMF) has recommenced disposals and they are back to business as usual.
"Due to transport delays we were required to pause the collections," Cr Latcham said.
"The delays meant that our disposal area became overloaded and we unfortunately had to put a brief pause on the collections.
"But the good news is this is now back up and running!
"LCRWMF accepts unwanted household paint for free and then recycles it as part of the national 'Paintback' program, which Council is proud to be a part of.
"Last year our residents helped to divert over 75,000 kgs of unwanted paint and packaging from landfill and waterways as part of the program, which is a fantastic achievement.
"I am very happy the program is back and our community can continue to contribute to such a worthwhile initiative."
The Paintback program, at the LCRWMF, accepts a maximum of 100 litres per visit to a collection site of unwanted paint and packaging (wet or dry) in containers no larger than 20 litres.
Eligible products include;
- Deck coatings and floor paints
- Interior and exterior architectural paint
- Packaging (plastic and metal containers in which paint was originally sold in)
- Primers
- Sealers
- Stains and shellacs
- Undercoats
- Varnishes and urethanes (single components)
- Wood coatings
Not accepted products are also listed on the paintback website.
