Pair Nabbed for Car Theft, Police Assault in Grovedale

Police have arrested a man and woman following the theft of two motor vehicles in Armstrong Creek this morning.

Officers responded to reports of a grey Ford Ranger and trailer being stolen from a property on Barwarre Road about 9.20am.

Swift acting police caught sight of the Ford, driving in convoy with a stolen black Subaru Liberty, on Surf Coast Highway a short time later.

Officers attempted to intercept the Ford on Peter Street in Grovedale before the Subaru drove directly at police.

A police officer was struck by the vehicle.

The officer was taken to hospital with a minor injury.

Police arrested the female driver of the Subaru and the male driver of the Ford.

During the arrest, two police officers were assaulted.

They sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

An Ararat man and a Norlane woman will be interviewed.

A significant amount of allegedly stolen property was located in the Subaru.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
