Pakistan-Born Man Faces Visa Breach Charge in Victoria

A Pakistan-born man is set to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court today (3 September, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 44, today (3 September, 2024) after he was located in Melbourne.

It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa yesterday (2 September, 2024) by refusing to be fitted with an electronic monitoring device.

The man has been charged with:

  • One count of failing to comply with conditions relating to a monitoring device, contrary to section 76D(2) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
