The replacement of more than 300 metres of scenic footpath along Cape Pallarenda Road is nearing completion, enhancing Townsville's active transport network in the lead up to the World Triathlon Multisport World Championships later this year.
Divisional Councillor, Ann-Maree Greaney said Council crews were conducting the footpath replacement works along the most deteriorated section of path between Pallarenda and Rowes Bay.
"We're so fortunate to have more than 10 kilometres of pathway along our waterfront here in Townsville, spanning from the breakwater all the way to Cape Pallarenda," Cr Greaney said.
"The footpath that spans from Rowes Bay to Pallarenda has been there for quite some time, so our crews are slowly upgrading sections to make this part of our active transport network more accessible than ever.
"Council's crew are almost finished replacing a 360-metre section of the most worn piece of footpath which will be a welcome addition come August when the World Triathlon Multisport World Championships is in full swing.
"The 12-day event will feature 19 World Championship races across five different levels of athletes, including Age Group, Para triathletes, Junior, Under 23 and Elites.
"With 8 World Championship events, the Cape Pallarenda stretch will be a terrific vantage point for supporters and onlookers alike."
Councillor Greaney said Council was committed to investing in the core services the community needed.
"Townsville has such an enviable lifestyle, and good connectivity only serves to enhance that liveability," Cr Greaney said.
