President of Panama José Raúl Mulino Quintero met last week with Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to reaffirm the State's commitment to safe, secure, and sustainable air transport, marking a renewed focus on strengthening aviation oversight and strategic development.
Secretary General Salazar was joined by Mr. Mohamed Rahma, Director of the ICAO Air Transport Bureau, and Mr. Fabio Rabbani, ICAO Regional Director for South America, for a series of high-level engagements with national authorities.
Talks with President Mulino focused on building institutional capacity and advancing key national priorities, including the development of sustainable aviation fuels. The ICAO delegation also held meetings with Mr. Rafael Bárcenas, Director General of Panama's Civil Aviation Authority, and Mr. Abdel Martinez, Deputy Director General. Discussions covered regulatory compliance, workforce development, airspace modernization, and oversight enhancements.
The visit underscored the shared commitment of Panama and ICAO to implement global aviation standards and foster the safe, secure and sustainable growth of air transport in the region.
