Parliamentary Assembly hosts Secretary General's Question Time

CoE/Secretary General

Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has answered parliamentarians' questions at the PACE Spring session's Question Time. During a lively Q & A session, Marija Pejčinović Burić underlined the importance of the Fourth Summit of the Heads of State and Government in Reykjavik (16 - 17 May), organised by the Icelandic Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, while taking the opportunity to call on Member states to hold more regular summits (Reykjavik will be only the fourth summit in 74 years).

Moreover, she emphasised the need for accountability for the crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine, as a condition for a just and sustainable peace. The Secretary General recalled the relevance and global dimension of setting up a Register of Damage at the Council of Europe to record and document evidence and claims of damage, loss, or injury resulting from the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Other questions ranged from the situation in the Lachin corridor to national minorities' issues, as well as the role of Observer states in the Council of Europe.
