Parramatta Moves Toward Walkable, Rideable Future

Parramatta's walking and riding network is taking a giant leap forward with the completion of Stage 2A of the Alfred Street Pedestrian and Cyclist Upgrade, connecting key spots from Granville to the picturesque Parramatta River.

The new pathways between Eleanor Street and Clay Cliff Creek are now open, and include separated walking and riding paths, new street trees and raised crossings, ensuring people can walk and ride around Parramatta safely and comfortably.

Construction on the final section between Clay Cliff Creek and George Street (Stage 2B) is scheduled to begin in the coming months, with completion expected in late 2025. This will include wider path connections to local schools on either side to help get more kids riding and walking.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the upgrades are a win for both cyclists and pedestrians and will make a significant difference for the community.

"We're thrilled to complete another stage of this key pedestrian and cyclist upgrade that is helping to keep Parramatta residents and visitors active and healthy," Cr Zaiter said.

"This project is also about making the City safer and more accessible while building a more connected, walkable and bike-friendly Parramatta for pedestrians, families, people with mobility needs and anyone who enjoys walking or riding.

"Whether you are getting to your local shop, heading to the park or travelling to and from work or school, it's about making the connections that matter."

Member for Parramatta Donna Davis said the upgrades are going to be hugely beneficial for people who often walk or ride around Parramatta.

"The NSW Government is committed to improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists in Parramatta," Ms Davis said.

"These completed upgrades, and upcoming improvements will further enhance connectivity in Parramatta and encourage more people to walk and ride safely."

Once completed, the Alfred Street Pedestrian and Cyclist Upgrade will connect Granville with the Parramatta Light Rail Active Transport Link from Carlingford, as well as the upcoming George Street East Pedestrian and Cyclist Paths Project.

The George Street Paths will deliver the missing link on the southern foreshore of the Parramatta River between Alfred Street Bridge and Gasworks Bridge.

The $8.3 million Alfred Street Stage 2A upgrade was proudly funded by City of Parramatta and the NSW Government's Get NSW Active Program.

The $5.4 million Stage 2B upgrade has been proudly funded by NSW Government's Get NSW Active Program.

The $4.9M George Street East Pedestrian and Cyclist Paths Project has been proudly funded by City of Parramatta and the NSW Government's Get NSW Active, and Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link programs.
