Parramatta Tree Lighting Kicks Off Festive Season

The City of Parramatta will officially kick off the festive season by inviting residents to the official lighting of the Christmas tree at Parramatta Square, the City's new nativity display and the return of the City's Christmas Markets and festivities.

On November 28 from 3pm, locals can find the perfect gift across more than 50 market stalls at the City's Christmas markets while enjoying roving festive entertainment, live music, activities and decorations.

Santa himself will be making a stop at Parramatta Square, followed by the lighting of the 16-metre Christmas tree at 7.30pm.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the festivities are about bringing the community together to spread joy and happiness at this special time of year.

"We welcome everyone to join us as we light up Parramatta for the festive season," Cr Zaiter said.

"I have fond memories of celebrating Christmas with my family in Parramatta when I was young and I now enjoy bringing my own kids to the City to experience the magic like I did."

Walker NSW General Manager of Investment Assets Robert Beck said Parramatta Square will transform into a festive wonderland this Christmas.

"Walker are proud to sponsor the Parramatta Square Christmas Markets, which showcase local produce and support small business and we welcome everyone from Western Sydney and beyond to come and experience the magic of Christmas with us," Mr Beck said.

"Christmas is all about coming together and Parramatta Square is the perfect place for family, friends and colleagues to connect while enjoying the festive atmosphere with great food and cultural activities in the heart of Parramatta."

Cr Zaiter said the end of the year is also a time to reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ and give back to people in the community who are doing it tough.

"It's not just about presents and decorations - it's a time for us to connect with people in our lives as the year winds down," Cr Zaiter said.

"Over the last few years, many people in our community have experienced challenges, but I commend our community on rallying together and supporting each other through times of hardship."

The City of Parramatta festive program is running from 28 November to early January and includes:

  • Christmas Markets at Centenary Square, proudly supported by Walker Corporation running each Wednesday from December 4 to 18 between 7.30am-2:30pm
  • Christmas entertainment during the markets plus every Thursday and Friday from November 28 until December 20.
  • Christmas Nativity display outside PHIVE between 28 November to 24 December
  • Christmas tree in Parramatta Square from November 28 to early January 2025
