The new $46.6 million Parramatta Police Station in western Sydney will be officially opened this morning (Monday 26 August 2024), bolstering the capabilities of NSW Police for communities in a growing region.
NSW Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley will join NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb APM to officially unveil the new purpose-built facility.
Premier Chris Minns said the government is committed to attracting more people to vital roles like policing.
"Part of that is ensuring police have the facilities they need to keep the community safe.
"Police dedicate their lives to protecting their community and these new facilities will help make that work a little bit easier."
Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said the new station gave officers the resources and facilities needed to continue to fight crime and support the growing community.
"A world class police force requires world class facilities and that's exactly what we're delivering," she said.
"Addressing domestic and family violence is, and will continue to be, a top priority for the NSW Police Force and the NSW Government and I am delighted that the new facilities support both police and victim-survivors in this effort."
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb APM said the official opening of the new Parramatta police station was a significant day for the local community and officers who worked in the command.
"The previous police station was built more than 50 years ago and now our officers have a new purpose-built home which provides state-of-the-art facilities," Commissioner Webb said.
"As part of the new design, there are specialist support rooms for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, which represents NSW Police's continued commitment to supporting victims of crime.
"Today represents a significant milestone in the working lives of Parramatta police and provides them with cutting-edge technology to enable them to respond more effectively to the needs of the community they serve."
The new station will accommodate approximately 180 police officers in general duties, criminal intelligence, domestic violence team/operatives, bicycle/high visibility policing teams, prosecutors, and traffic and highway patrol command.
Other features include:
- Improved audiovisual capabilities for custody, victims/witnesses and legal access;
- Specialist support rooms for victims of sexual violence;
- Electric vehicle charging stations and solar roof panels;
- Improved gymnasium and staff facilities;
- Training room;
- Conference room;
- Meal room with outdoor barbecue area;
- Sections for crime investigation, crime prevention, taskforces, prosecutors and highway patrol;
- A secured van dock.
As homage to the old police station, the Police Crest from the exterior of the former building has been reinstated.
