New partnership to deliver at least 230 new homes for South Australians
The Albanese Government's Social Housing Accelerator will build at least 230 homes for South Australians who need them.
As part of the $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator, the South Australia Government has received more than $135 million from the Commonwealth to deliver these additional homes.
All the Commonwealth funding for these homes must be committed by South Australia by 30 June 2025.
The Government is today releasing final implementation plans for the $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator that shows how many homes state and territory governments will deliver with funding from the Commonwealth.
This is another example of the Albanese Government working with the South Australian Government to build more homes.
Today's announcement builds on the new $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund and agreement by National Cabinet to deliver the most significant housing reforms in a generation.
This agreement includes a new national target to build 1.2 million new well located homes, the National Planning Reform Blueprint, and A Better Deal for Renters.
At National Cabinet, the Albanese Government also committed a further $3 billion to the New Homes Bonus to incentivise states and territories to undertake the reforms necessary to reach the 1.2 million well located homes target.
A new Housing Support Program will also provide another $500 million to help local and state and territory governments deliver new housing supply in well located areas.
As put by Federal Housing Minister Julie Collins
"We recognise Australia is facing housing challenges, which is why we're taking immediate action with our $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator - including more than $135 million for South Australia.
"This new funding, and the homes we are announcing today, will mean more South Australians have a safe and affordable place to call home.
"The Social Housing Accelerator is just one part of our ambitious housing reform agenda.
"This agenda is already making a real difference - here in South Australia and right across the country."
As put by Minister for Human Services Nat Cook
"South Australia's Malinauskas Labor Government is pulling every lever it can to ease the housing crisis with initiatives such as cutting taxes for first home buyers, increasing the public housing supply for the first time in a generation and announcing the single largest land release in the state's history.
"This $135 million boost from the Commonwealth will help us go even further and South Australia thanks the Prime Minister and Minister Collins for recognising the urgent need for more secure housing across the country.
"South Australia has already committed more than $230 million for new and upgraded public housing. This new federal investment means more help for people when they need it most."
