- New grains industry partnership formed to further enhance grain export opportunities for growers
- McGowan Government grains investments are building a strong, internationally competitive industry
Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis has welcomed the announcement of a new partnership between Grains Australia and the Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre (AEGIC) to deliver greater value for grain growers.
The McGowan Government co-owns AEGIC with the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), which also owns Grains Australia.
The partnership between Grains Australia and AEGIC will build a strong and united national grains alliance, to create a seamless and connected set of industry services which avoid duplication through parts of the grain supply chain.
Under the agreement, AEGIC will continue its important role in overseas market development and research, including trade analysis and intelligence, understanding customer requirements, and developing new products and value adding opportunities.
Grains Australia will maintain its focus across grain classification, trade and market access, market information and education.
The move will help Australian grain growers by delivering these value-added activities in a coordinated and efficient manner, and further enhancing the competitiveness of our grains industry in an increasingly complex global environment.
Under the new structure, GRDC's investment in AEGIC will be transferred to Grains Australia.
AEGIC's head office will remain in Perth, Western Australia and the partnership will work closely with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
As stated by Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis:
"This new partnership will deliver a unified voice for our grain industry, further enhancing export opportunities for Australian growers.
"The move puts our grain industry in a strong position to navigate increasingly volatile and complex global market forces and adapt to changing customer demands for premium, safe and sustainably produced food.
"This new alliance highlights the benefits of joint Government investment in targeted initiatives that help our primary industries remain internationally competitive and profitable."
