Passenger dies after crash at Murwillumbah

An elderly woman has died following a two-vehicle crash in the state's Northern Rivers region yesterday.

About 8.40am (Tuesday 13 September 2022), emergency services were called to Tumbulgum Road, Murwillumbah, following reports a Subaru Forester and Toyota Camry collided.

The front seat passenger of the Toyota – an 83-year-old woman – could not be revived and died at the scene.

The driver of the Subaru and Toyota – two men aged 18 and 63 – were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in serious but stable conditions.

A crime scene was established by officers from Tweed/Byron Police District, which was examined by specialist police from the Far North Crash Investigation Unit.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
