Next time you're walking past the Armidale Regional Council building in Rusden Street, make sure you pop in and have a look at the latest art exhibition on display in the foyer.
The Past, Present and Print exhibition was created by artists from the Black Gully Printmakers, and is inspired by historical artefacts from the Armidale Folk Museum.
Armidale Regional Council's General Manager James Roncon said the exhibition provides a snapshot into our past while also supporting local artists and the Armidale Folk Museum.
"This exhibition provides a fascinating glimpse into the region's history, and it is a great opportunity for Council to support a local not-for-profit group by displaying this wonderful artwork, while also livening up the foyer," he said.
Jennifer Miller is the Treasurer of the Black Gully Printmakers group and is one of the artists whose work is on display.
Ms Miller took inspiration from a hand – sewn christening dress and she says this exhibition is a great way to appreciate a different way of life.
"It makes you think about how hard it was for people to live in particular times and it makes you think about the social values of the time," she said.
"I was particularly drawn to a christening dress that was completely handmade and it just strikes me the amount of time that it would have taken to actually do something like that."
The Past, Present and Print exhibition will be on display until Friday 19 March 2021, and a number of the pieces can be purchased through the Black Gully Printmakers.
