Celebrating Ollie the Therapy Dog Librarian's 6th Birthday

Shellharbour City Libraries celebrated a very special birthday today - Ollie, the much-loved therapy dog Librarian, turned six.

For the past two years, Ollie has been an important part of library programs, creating a warm and inclusive environment for all.

From listening to young readers in Read to Ollie sessions to providing a comforting presence to students during HSC study visits, Ollie has supported many library visitors.

Adding to the celebrations, Ollie has just been named the 2025 RAS Canine Hero Award winner in the Companion Dog category.

This prestigious award honours dogs doing extraordinary things, and Ollie is being recognised for her incredible impact on the Shellharbour community. Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer praised the difference Ollie has made.

"Ollie brings so much joy to our libraries. She helps build confidence in young readers, provides comfort during study sessions, and makes our events even more special," he said.

"We're thrilled to celebrate her birthday and this well-deserved award with the community."

Library visitors of all ages came together for Ollie's birthday celebration at Shellharbour City Library.

The party included a special birthday-themed story time, games, and plenty of wellearned treats for Ollie.

She was joined by her owner, experienced guide and therapy dog trainer Judi Sandilands-Cincotta, along with two of her guide dog friends.

Over the years, Ollie has been part of many library events, including Guide Dog-Themed Storytime, Paint Ollie, and Babies Love Books.

She was also named Oz Top Dog 2024 out of 300 working dogs in recognition of her contributions to the community.
