Pedal Into Biketober

Love to Ride's free Biketober challenge is back this year.

The aim of Biketober is simple: everyone is invited to jump on a bike during October and enjoy the many benefits that cycling can bring.

Biketober is a partnership between RACV and local councils across Australia.

How it works

Sign up

The Biketober challenge is open to riders of all skill levels. You can register as an individual or as a workplace team through the Love to Ride website.

Once you've registered, you can download the Love to Ride app on your phone via the Apple Store or Google Play. The app allows you to:

  • track your bike miles
  • monitor your carbon savings
  • set yourself goals, rate riding routes
  • find ideas to help you ‌bike ride more often, all year round.

Build your points

To start earning points toward your tally as part of the challenge, you can do the following:

  • Ride your bike - Any bike ride that lasts ten minutes or longer counts towards your individual and workplace scores. Points are awarded based on the distance you or your team rides.
  • Refer a friend - You can earn points by referring others to join Biketober.

Not only will you contribute points to the leaderboard, but you'll also have a chance to win some great prizes along the way.

A $3,000 bike of your choice and a $4,000 holiday are among the prizes on offer, while everyone that registers will receive a free one-year RACV Bike Assist membership.

Benefits of riding

Riding a bike is healthy, fun and a low-impact form of exercise for all ages. It's mainly an aerobic activity, resulting in a full-body workout for your heart, blood vessels, and lungs.

According to the Victoria Government's Better Health Channel, the health benefits of regular cycling include:

  • increased cardiovascular fitness
  • improved joint mobility
  • decreased stress levels
  • reduced anxiety and depression.

There are 75 kilometres of informal off-road paths and 37 kilometres of formal shared paths in Boroondara. These are the city's most popular bicycle routes, which are safe for cyclists who want to ride for fun or to commute to work.
