Put some spring in your mountain bike ride, by joining the annual Tour de Gorge pedal through the Pilliga forest on Saturday, 7 September.
Starting at Pilliga Pottery, the family friendly cycling event will take riders through some secret scenery not on the regular tourist trail, with the bonus of blossoming wildflowers.
First run in 2013, the Tour de Gorge has become a regular event to kick-off spring in the picturesque Pilliga Forest and Timmallallie National Park, near Baradine.
There are 2 routes to choose from, a 12 km course or the arduous 50 km route for the more Olympic inspired.
Spectators can come and enjoy the atmosphere for free, while local stall holders will also be on hand.
Participation in the ride requires prior registration and costs $30 per rider including a registration pack. Commemorative jerseys are also available to purchase.
Book your spot by heading to NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service website.
The event is on Saturday, 7 Sept 2024 with the ride brief kicking off at 8.30am and riders heading out at 9am.
Quotes attributable to John Whittall, NPWS Acting Director Northern Inland:
'It might not be as famous as the Tour de France, but the Tour de Gorge holds its own as family friendly day out in nature, enjoying exercise.
'We have people from aged five upwards joining in.
'The longer course is also a great option for the more serious riders with people coming from all over NSW to take part.
'It's an opportunity to remind everyone of the great national parks we have in our region and the many different ways of experiencing them.'
