Starting at Pilliga Pottery, the family-friendly cycling event will take riders through some secret scenery not on the regular tourist trail, with the bonus of blossoming wildflowers.

Since it was first run in 2013, the Tour de Gorge has become a regular event to kick-off spring in the picturesque Pilliga Forest and Timmallallie National Park, near Baradine.

Pedal through the largest native forest west of the Great Dividing Range and an important refuge for wildlife, including over 240 species of birds.

There are 2 bike routes to choose from, a 12 km course or the more arduous 50 km route for the Olympic inspired.

Spectators can come and enjoy the atmosphere for free, while local stall holders will also be on hand.

Participation in the ride requires prior registration and costs $30 per rider including a registration pack. Commemorative jerseys are also available to purchase.

Book your spot by heading to NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.

The event will take place on Saturday 7 Sept 2024 with a pre-ride briefing at 8.30 am and riders heading out at 9 am.

Quotes attributable to John Whittall, National Parks and Wildlife Service Acting Director Northern Inland:

'It might not be as famous as the Tour de France, but the Tour de Gorge holds its own as a family-friendly day out in nature.

'Families with kids aged five and over are joining in, enjoying exercise and the beautiful scenery the Pilliga Forest has to offer.

'The longer 50 km course is also a great option for more serious riders, with people coming from all over NSW to take part.

'The Tour de Gorge is an opportunity to remind everyone of the beautiful national parks we have in our region and the many different ways of experiencing them.'
