Pedestrian Seriously Injured at Airport, Police Report

A motorist has been charged over a crash outside the International Airport earlier today.

About 6.40am (Monday 16 September 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a minivan on a pedestrian crossing along Departure Plaza, Mascot, outside the International Airport.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the pedestrian – a 76-year-old man – at the scene before he was taken to St George Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command established a crime scene that was later examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

The 74-year-old male driver of the vehicle – a Hyundai Staria - was taken to Mascot Police Station.

Following inquiries, he was charged with negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 14 October 2024.
