- Tender released for the fit out of Peel Community Mental Health and Specialist Community Eating Disorders facility
- Works will see a new service located in Greenfields near Mandurah
- Closing date for the tender is 3 December
The Cook Government has released a tender to fit out a new community mental health service, including a specialist community eating disorder clinic in Peel.
The Peel-based outreach services of the Specialist Community Eating Disorders Service will have a dedicated entrance and separate treatment and consultation rooms.
Research has shown that the best way to support people experiencing eating disorders is through a mix of hospital-based acute services and community services.
The new facility is funded as part of the Commonwealth's Community Health and Hospitals Program.
Meanwhile, the Peel Health Campus redevelopment is currently in the final stages of planning and will reconfigure the emergency department and expand the day procedure unit, provide more outpatient services, and a new build of medical imaging services.
It will provide a new mental health emergency centre, additional operating theatre, more than 60 additional inpatient beds, 15 palliative care hospice beds, and 12 chemotherapy places.
The tender is available on Tenders WA and closes on Tuesday, 3 December 2024, with works to commence in 2025.
As stated by Health and Mental Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"Community mental health treatment has been shown to have huge benefits for patients and this service will expand services for people in the Peel region.
"The new facility will provide a safe, efficient, and functional environment that is recovery-oriented to meet the contemporary needs of consumers, staff and visitors accessing the facility."
