In light of the recent revelation of comments and posts on social media that are not in line with NT Greens values, Peltherre Chris Tomlins will no longer be the Greens candidate for Araluen at the 2024 Territory general election.
As stated by Jonathan Parry (NT Greens Convenor)
"The NT Greens have made the difficult decision that Peltherre Chris Tomlins will no longer be the NT Greens Candidate for Araluen in the 2024 Territory election. Peltherre Chris has amplified views on social media that are not in keeping with the NT Greens views, and while we understand the intention behind many of these posts was not to cause offence, we deeply regret and are sorry for the hurt they may have caused."
"Candidates for public office must be held to a high standard and the NT Greens are proud to fight against racism and antisemitism."
"We acknowledge the incredible work that Peltherre Chris does in the community. He has been a leader in Mparntwe and beyond for decades, and an unwavering advocate for First Nations young people, youth justice reform and truth telling. We will continue to support his important advocacy as a senior Arrernte & Walpiri man working for First Nations justice."
"The NT Greens take the process of probity and candidate care seriously. We acknowledge the relentless scrutiny that candidates are under, both from the community and the media. We are committed to the wellbeing of Greens-endorsed candidates and their families."
As stated by Chris Peltherre Tomlins.
"I am withdrawing for the benefit of the Territory campaign and reject false accusations of antisemitism made against me. I am a proud cultural, tribal man, Arrernte and Walpiri elder, I want to stand with other oppressed people."
"I am sorry for causing offence, this was never my intention."
