Pentagon Chiefs Meet Ecuador Defense, Interior Ministers

Mr. Rafael Leonardo, Performing the Duties of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs, and Mr. James Alverson, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Western Hemisphere Affairs, met with Ecuadorian Minister of Defense Gian Carlo Loffredo Rendon and Minister of Interior John Reimberg at the Pentagon on April 4.

The four officials discussed the security situation in Ecuador as well as the threats posed by transnational organized crime. They also exchanged ideas for expanding defense and security cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting reaffirmed the United States' strong defense and security partnership with Ecuador and our shared objectives, including to counter transnational criminal organizations that threaten our nations and other countries throughout the Western Hemisphere.
