Perth Man Charged Over Threats To Commonwealth MP

A West Australian man is expected to face Perth Magistrates Court today (17 January, 2025), charged with allegedly sending four threatening and harassing emails to a Commonwealth Member of Parliament.

The AFP charged the Eden Hill man, 46, yesterday (16 January, 2025) after he attended AFP Perth headquarters. Investigators conducted a search of the man, seizing a mobile phone which allegedly contained the threatening correspondence.

The man has been charged with four counts of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, contrary to section 474.17(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth).

The maximum penalty for this offence is five years' imprisonment.
