Perth's status as a major events destination shows no signs of slowing down, with Game II of the annual National Rugby League (NRL) State of Origin series confirmed for Optus Stadium on Wednesday, 18 June 2025.
The State of Origin is a three-match series between two of Australia's biggest sporting rivals - the Queensland Maroons and New South Wales Blues - and touted as one of the biggest annual sporting contests in the country.
Next year's event marks State of Origin's third time in Perth, which is expected to again deliver thousands of out-of-state visitors and millions of dollars to Western Australia.
Previous matches in 2019 and 2022 both attracted crowds of close to 60,000, with the more recent match in 2022 generating $13.3 million for the local economy from the nearly 7,000 people who travelled from outside WA to attend.
Game II's announcement comes off the back of recent NRL blockbusters in Perth, including this year's sellout match between the Sydney Roosters and Dolphins at HBF Park and the Optus Stadium doubleheader last year which brought over the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Cronulla Sharks, Newcastle Knights and Dolphins.
Perth will also host a State of Origin match again in 2028.
Tickets for Game II of the 2025 series in Perth go on sale this Friday, 22 November.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"State of Origin is one of sport's greatest rivalries, and the highest level of representative rugby league that Australia has to offer.
"This series has everything that is great about rugby league - world-class athleticism and skill, incredible spectacle and loyal and passionate fans - so it's no wonder that past State of Origin matches held at Optus Stadium have attracted thousands of interstate and even international visitors to WA.
"This epic clash between the Maroons and Blues is also another fantastic chance for Western Australian fans to enjoy the pinnacle of rugby league magic, right on their doorstep."
As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:
"State of Origin is one of the biggest fixtures on the Australian sporting calendar, and we're so excited it's returning to Perth again in 2025.
"The passion this event ignites, the rivalry it sparks between friends and family and the thousands of people it entices to travel each year is just incredible.
"It's these types of events that are so beneficial for Western Australia - ones that attract thousands of interstaters and even internationals, generate millions of dollars for our economy in visitor spend and showcase our State to the millions of people that tune in right across the country."
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:
"State of Origin is a well-known sporting rivalry that has a passionate fan base across Australia, and it's phenomenal to be hosting one of the three games here in Perth once again next June.
"After phenomenal results when we hosted State of Origin games in 2019 and 2022, WA has proven that this epic showdown between the Blues and Maroons will always be met with a packed stadium, so I encourage fans to get their tickets before they miss out."
