- World-class pharmaceutical compounding centre now complete in Perth
- Facility will be one of the most technologically advanced compounding centres in Australia
- Project to create local jobs and help diversify the State's economy
- Supported by Cook Government's Investment Attraction Fund
Construction works are complete on a new world-class pharmaceutical compounding centre in Perth, which will manufacture and supply lifesaving medicines across the State and help to diversify Western Australia's economy.
The new Baxter Healthcare facility in Canning Vale will be one of the most technologically advanced compounding sites in the country, producing tailored medicines for patients across Western Australia - including lifesaving cancer treatments.
Baxter Healthcare already employs around 60 people in Western Australia, and the new facility will support the company to increase its local workforce with 20 new highly skilled pharmaceutical manufacturing jobs in the first three years.
The project will help to strengthen WA's sovereign capabilities in medical manufacturing, with Baxter Healthcare to expand its production of lifesaving medicines by more than 50 per cent.
The centre is currently progressing towards its Therapeutic Goods Administration licensing and will begin production in the coming months.
The Cook Government backed the project through the Investment Attraction Fund, providing a $4 million grant which helped to secure the facility for Western Australia.
It is one of seven Health and Medical Life Sciences sector projects supported in the IAF's inaugural round, with nearly $24 million allocated between the projects.
The IAF is a key part of the Cook Government's plan to diversity WA's economy, helping to secure major job-creating projects that set the State up for the future. For more information see: Investment Attraction Fund (investandtrade.wa.gov.au)
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"Under my Government, Western Australia is becoming a leader in medical manufacturing.
"Baxter Healthcare's new facility is the best in the nation, and means we can produce more medicines right here in WA - saving lives and advancing our sovereign capability.
"Through the Investment Attraction Fund, we're supporting major projects that diversify our economy and create quality local jobs for the future."
