The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch would like to thank and acknowledge outgoing Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews for his support of community pharmacy and primary healthcare and looks forward to continuing to work closely with the Victorian Government.
"Premier Andrews has been a longstanding supporter of community pharmacies and the vital role they play as primary healthcare providers in local communities," said Victorian Pharmacy Guild President Anthony Tassone.
"This has been clearly demonstrated by the Victorian Government's commitment, under Premier Andrews' leadership, to the community pharmacy prescribing pilot. This pilot, which is due to begin next month, will allow community pharmacists to use their clinical expertise to provide patients with timely and effective treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract infections, minor skin conditions and issuing repeat prescriptions for the oral contraceptive," Mr. Tassone said.
"The Guild would also like to acknowledge Premier Andrews' support in providing grant funding for community pharmacies to expand their services in the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out during the pandemic which saw an increase in vaccine uptake in the community."
"There was also the implementation of real time prescription monitoring (SafeScript) in late 2019, an initiative that has been potentially lifesaving for patients taking prescription medicines susceptible to misuse and abuse."
"I wish Premier Andrews and his family all the best as he moves on to the next chapter."
"The Guild looks forward to continuing to work closely with the Victorian Government for the benefit of the Victorian healthcare system," Mr. Tassone said.
