Nature-loving City of Logan residents are invited to join a global game of 'I Spy' next weekend, but they don't have to travel far.
Logan City Council will host an online photo competition from Friday, April 26 until Monday, April 29, as part of the 2024 City Nature Challenge - a worldwide community science event.
Over the four days, residents are encouraged to upload photographs of any interesting plants, insects or animals found in the City of Logan.
The event will help create a snapshot of biodiversity across the world, while also providing some friendly competition to see which city can record the most species.
Photographs can be taken at any location in the City of Logan, including in local parks, nature reserves or in residents' backyards.
Images can then be uploaded to inaturalist.ala.org.au as 'observations'. Local entries will be automatically included on the City of Logan's official competition page, at: inaturalist.ala.org.au/projects/city-nature-challenge-2024-logan-city-council
Environment Chair, Councillor Miriam Stemp said the competition was designed to record local biodiversity and encourage everyone to experience it.
"We are privileged to share our city with some amazing flora and fauna species, and this challenge is a great way to learn a bit more about them," Cr Stemp said.
"Importantly, professional photography skills are not required. This is about having fun, snapping pictures, and sharing our love of our local environment with the world."
Residents in need of some inspiration can participate in a guided nature walk that will explore Kimberley Park Forest from 9am on Saturday, April 27.
Registrations for that activity are essential, and can be made on Eventbrite, by searching for 'City Nature Challenge: Guided Walk' and following the links.
