Council is proposing a new Recreational Vehicle (RV) Friendly site in Picola after endorsing a grassed area next to the Picola Public Hall to join Moira Shire's eight existing locations.
If approved, the proposal will allow for up to five self-contained RVs to park for up to 48 hours.
Adding new RV Friendly towns in Moira Shire is part of a key strategy to help boost tourism and economic development by attracting more travellers.
Picola was identified as a potential location as part of Council's Recreational Vehicle (RV) Friendly Strategy and Council had been exploring suitable sites in conjunction with the community.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said increasing access to RV friendly sites will help encourage visitors to explore more of our beautiful region.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for Picola and the wider region to capture some of the growing number of RV travellers and encourage people to spend more time in our region and explore all that Moira Shire has to offer," Dr Emonson said.
"Feedback from our other towns has shown a positive economic impact on communities which have RV-friendly sites, and the ability to offer more locations will help encourage people to explore new towns in our shire."
Council will now complete a detailed site plan and seek further community consultation through a planning permit process before a decision is made to formally adopt the site as an RV friendly location.
