Pictures Of Our Pets Tell Thousand Words

Competition celebrates unique personalities of adored adopted animals

Pet owners are renown for filling their phones with images of their adored animal companions, often captured in endearing poses or doing something funny.

In a competition launched today, RSPCA South Australia is calling on these doting pet parents to share photos and videos that reflect their furry, feathered and scaly family members' unique personalities, with captions explaining the awards they think their pets deserve.

It might be 'Ultimate Couch Potato' for a dog who enjoys taking life easy and naps in unusual positions, or maybe a cat who deserves an award for always "helping" with the shopping.

Entrants to RSPCA SA's "Perfect Pet Awards Competition" will be in the running to win a $500 Petbarn gift card, with prizes for runner-ups too. Entry criteria is that the pet was adopted from RSPCA SA and is photographed or filmed exhibiting some natural behaviours of a happy, healthy animal, albeit unusual and entertaining at times.

"We've received some hilarious images from adopters over the years – some animals are natural comedians, which can be a big part of their charm," RSPCA SA CEO Marcus Gehrig said.

"Rescue animals thrive when given second chances at life in loving homes - it's beautiful to see. This competition is a way to celebrate their unique characters and quirks, and for their lucky adopters to put writing skills to the test with some creative captions - we can't wait to see what comes in!"

The competition closes at midnight on 7 March 2025, with winners notified on 14 March.
