Pierces Creek Road Works Near Completion

A 12-month program of essential flood recovery works along Pierces Creek Road at Crows Nest is almost nearing completion.

The series of projects undertaken by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC), were required as a result of significant flood damage during the 2022 flood events.

TRC Construction and Maintenance (Infrastructure Services) portfolio spokesperson, Councillor Carol Taylor, said Council appreciated the understanding of residents and motorists while construction works across multiple sites had been undertaken along this key route.

"We acknowledge the community's and motorists' patience as we've worked to deliver major milestones, including three significant culvert upgrades, five concrete pipe replacements and multiple pavement reconstruction patches along Pierces Creek Road.

"With these works now complete, Pierces Creek Road and the surrounding road network have been significantly improved and will provide a much-needed upgrade," Cr Taylor said.

"Two of these essential culvert upgrades involved widening the roadway from a single lane to double lane waterway crossings, greatly improving traffic flow and reducing risks for motorists.

"The works are expected to be completed in April 2025, weather and site conditions permitting and will provide a safer and more resilient road network between Crows Nest and Blackbutt, a road frequently used by locals and visitors," she said.

These works are part of the 2022 Flood Recovery Program aimed at restoring critical infrastructure damaged by extreme weather events. The Pierces Creek Road recovery works were delivered by Georgiou Group (Council's Flood Recovery Contractor in the north) and Council's Construction and Maintenance Team.

Council acknowledges the financial assistance for these projects, which are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
