The Territory Labor Government is making sure local jobs and local business are supported during COVID-19 and during the rebound.
In May, 75 construction contracts valued at $43.1 million were awarded to local business, supporting 193 local jobs.
As of the end of June, there are currently 16 procurements out to market valued at $190 million, which will provide further jobs for Territorians.
These new infrastructure projects include:
- Upgrades to Yarralin housing;
- Upgrades to East Arnhem Region housing;
- Bitumen resurfacing on various Darwin roads; and
- Upgrades to Urandangi Road in Alice Springs.
The Territory Government is backing Territory businesses; this is why the Buy Local Policy was improved – to create local jobs right across the Territory.
An investment in strategic infrastructure and a steady pipeline of projects will continue to support industry and economic growth.
As stated by the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Eva Lawler:
"Our Government is backing Territory businesses – making sure that local jobs come first.
"During coronavirus we have supported local business and local jobs, creating more than 193 Territory jobs during the month May.
"We're investing in infrastructure for the Territory because it's good for local businesses and it's good for local jobs.
"Our Buy Local rules put local jobs and local businesses first, and continuing to roll out our 10-year infrastructure plan will provide certainty, grow the economy and create more jobs for the future."
