- Universal is moving "Pitch Perfect 3" to the Christmas 2017 time frame with a launch on December 22, AceShowbiz reports. The move came only three weeks after the studio said it was moving up the "Pitch Perfect" threequel to July 21 from August 4. The studio noted, "get ready to have a Merry Pitchmas."
"Pitch Perfect 3" is joining the crowded Christmas release including "Star Wars Episode VIII", DreamWorks Animation's "The Croods 2", Weinstein/Dimension's "The Six Billion Dollar Man", Fox's "The Greatest Showman on Earth".
Elizabeth Banks is returning to direct the threequel, while stars Anna Kendrick, Hailee Steinfeld, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow will reprise their respective roles.
Malcolm D. Lee's comedy "Girl Trip" will take over "Pitch Perfect 3" old date of July 21, joining the crowded mid-summer weekend release including Tom Hardy's "Dunkirk" and Dane DeHaan's "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets". The movie, which follows four lifelong friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, was originally set to open August 11, 2017.
