At the monthly Planning Delegated Committee Meeting on Wednesday 14 August, Ballarat City Council considered a number of agenda items:
Bridge Mall built form amendment
Ballarat City Council received a report from officers on the Bridge Mall built form amendment.
Councillors acknowledged the objections received for the amendment.
It was resolved to split the Planning Scheme Amendment into two parts;
- Part one, amends the Heritage Overlay boundary to update heritage significant buildings in the Bridge Mall and Bakery Hill precincts and proposes to revise the heritage classifications.
- Part two, implement the recommendations from the Bridge Mall Built Form overlay to provide improved design and development guidance for new development proposals in the Bridge Mall.
It was also resolved to postpone further action on the Design and Developmental Overlay component of the amendment, until further work has been completed on Ballarat's Flood Mapping project.
Plan for Victoria, City of Ballarat's submission
Council was also presented with a recommended submission to the State Government, following the recent public consultation launched by the government on the Plan for Victoria Housing Targets.
Council discussed the State Government's specific changes proposed to the planning system and to recognise Local Government's role as local experts in planning and growth.
It was resolved to submit the proposed submission to the Minister for Planning.
Heritage Victoria Permit - Ballarat Railway gates, City of Ballarat's submission
Finally, Ballarat City Council received a report from officers regarding the Lydiard Street railway gates at the Ballarat Railway Station following the Heritage Victoria Permit.
Councillors discussed the importance of the gates to the significance of the Ballarat Railway Station complex, and recommended that the gates be repaired, rebuilt and returned to operation.
Council endorsed the submission to Heritage Victoria.
