Form new friendships and connections within the LGBTQIA+ community at a one-day volunteer tree planting activity at Stony Creek Nature Reserve later this month.
The ACT Government, in partnership with Greening Australia, Landcare Australia, Landcare ACT and Meridian ACT, is hosting a volunteer tree planting morning for the LGBTQIA+ community on the 22 May 2022.
"Canberrans love and care so much about the environment they live, work and play in, so this event is sure to be popular," Minister for the Environment, Rebecca Vassarotti said. "Following on from the success of Landcare for Singles event last year, this event will be fun, inclusive, and accessible, while raising awareness and recruiting valuable environmental volunteers.
"From this volunteer event, you will help us plant up 1000 trees and shrubs on the reserve that will help to protect and conserve the endangered box gum woodlands in the ACT.
"Not only will you be giving back to the environment through volunteering, you will also have the opportunity to form new friendships and connections within the LGBTQIA+ community. While you help care for endangered woodlands in the ACT, this community event is all about selfcare too."
Quotes attributable Meridian CEO Philippa Moss:
"Meridian is thrilled to be a part of Landcare ACT's LGBTIQA+ tree planting event. Just as it takes many trees to create a forest, it takes people to create a community. It requires nurturing and hard work and it requires many hands. It is everybody's responsibility; everyone can play a part and the results can be astonishing.
"We are eager to get our hands in the soil and help regenerate this little patch of Ngunnawal country. We can watch it grow and have a real sense of pride in what we can achieve together. Meridian and Landcare welcome everyone, especially people of diverse genders, sexualities, relationships and proud allies. All are welcome, let's get planting!"
