Plastic Free Jervis Bay - Support For Food Retailers

Council is excited to announce that the Plastic Free Places Program will be working with our local food retailers as they adapt to the single-use plastic free future.

The program will be fully facilitated and funded by Plastic Free Places under a Commonwealth grant and will commence in July 2022. Council is helping promote this opportunity to local businesses prior to the program commencing.

The program is free and will support local food businesses and retailers to reduce their single-use plastic waste. This is particularly important as the NSW State Government is introducing a ban on a range of different single-use plastic items, and many businesses will require support to prepare for this.

  • From the 1 June 2022, the supply of lightweight single-use shopping bags will be banned across New South Wales.
  • From the 1 November 2022, the supply of single-use plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, bowls, plates, and expanded polystyrene foodware will all be banned across New South Wales.

Food retailers in the Shoalhaven LGA like cafes, bars, restaurants, kiosks and vans will be eligible for the program, and will be able to express their interest to participate at: plasticfreeplaces.org/jervis-bay.
