City of Playford's Council Assessment Panel (CAP) has approved planning consent for a sports entertainment venue on the corner of Main North Road and Philip Highway, Elizabeth.
Submitted by leading Australian developer, Pelligra Group, the venue will feature an indoor ice sports arena, elite rock-climbing facility, indoor recreation and gymnasium - supported by a restaurant and other hospitality tenancies.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the approval marks an important milestone for the proposed large-scale development.
"Our community has told us that they want more things to do, more offerings and more activities in the north and this proposal by the Pelligra Group responds to that demand," the Mayor said.
"This approval from the independent Assessment Panel is another step towards Council's vision of a revitalised CBD, and will provide a place where the community can come together, socialise and enjoy recreational sports and activities," the Mayor said.
"It is an impressive proposal and the building itself is set to become a landmark for not just Elizabeth, but the whole of the north."
Pelligra Group will now progress to structural design and building rules consent followed by development approval for the works. Timelines for this stage of the planning and development process typically span 12 months, after which construction timeframes will be understood.
The City of Playford continues to work with developers on other opportunities throughout the Elizabeth CBD to further diversify and enhance the offerings within the precinct.
