Shade sails have been installed at 12 playgrounds across the Camden area as part of Council's COVID-19 Community Support Package.
The playgrounds, which cater for a range of ages, will not only keep the equipment at a comfortable and safe temperature to play on, but will also reduce children's exposure to blistering heat and harmful UV rays.
Shade sails have been installed at:
- Harrington Park Reserve, Harrington Park;
- Manna Gum Reserve, Narellan Vale;
- Caulfield Reserve, Currans Hill;
- Bagnall Street Park, Gregory Hills;
- Starke Street Park, Spring Farm;
- Ancona Avenue Park, Spring Farm;
- Blueberry Park, Elderslie;
- Curry Reserve, Elderslie;
- Greenhills Reserve, Narellan;
- Merino Reserve, Elderslie;
- Little Reserve, Camden; and
- Pindari Reserve, Camden.
Shade sails at Kings Bush/Chellaston Reserve, Camden have been delayed due to wet weather and are expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Council will begin the installation of shade sails at another ten playgrounds throughout the Camden area in February. The program of works will be funded by Council and the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said she was pleased to have more playgrounds protected by shade sails.
"Reducing sun exposure is so important and these shade sails will go a long way to help protect children while they enjoy our playgrounds especially during summer," Cr Fedeli said.
"Remember to always slip, slop and slap when outdoors and remain COVID safe."
Council is investing $130.6 million across the three stages of its COVID-19 Community Support Package to help support residents and local businesses through COVID-19 impacts.
It's estimated all three stages of Council's Community Support Package will boost Camden's economy by up to $221.7 million, increasing GRP by up to $102 million and generating up to 507 new jobs.
