Nillumbik Shire Council's Annual Report 2023-2024 has been released and is now available to view on Council's website.
The Annual Report is a comprehensive showcase of the Council's performance in the 2023-2024 financial year against the four strategic objectives set out in the Council Plan 2021-2025 and the Annual Budget 2023-2024.
This report is an important part of Council's commitment to open and accountable governance.
Some of the achievements highlighted in this year's report include:
- Improved or maintained performance against stated targets on 80 per cent of the 56 strategic performance indicators in the 2021-2025 Council Plan
- Adoption of Council's Neighbourhood Character Strategy
- Completion of key actions in Council's Climate Action Plan
- Council rated number one overall across a range of industry sectors (and over 200 organisations) in the Customer Service Benchmarking Australia (CSBA) telephone mystery shopping program
- Delivery of the Youth Strategy 2022-2026 progressed, including the hosting of the 2024 Youth Summit and commencement of construction of the Nillumbik Youth Hub in Diamond Creek, open to young people from September 2024
- Completion of 86 per cent of Council's 2023-2024 Capital Works program, with the remaining projects on track for completion early in 2024-2025
- Delivery of key actions in the Health and Wellbeing Plan, and delivery of the Nillumbik Health and Wellbeing Partnership Forum 2024 to collaborate with stakeholders on health and wellbeing initiatives
- Continued pursuit of Council's local advocacy priorities in line with Nillumbik's Advocacy Plan.
In relation to service delivery, a selection of activities that Council provided across the year included:
- More than 353,980 participants in Council arts and cultural programs
- More than 1.69 million visits to Council's leisure and aquatic facilities
- 95 per cent of local roads maintained within condition standards
- More than 32,000 phone calls received through our Customer Service centre
- More than 26,800 customer requests responded to.
Nillumbik Council Chief Executive Officer, Carl Cowie said Council remained committed to providing outstanding service to residents, ratepayers and key stakeholders.
"Key aspects of Council's performance, including governance and leadership, customer service, planning services, animal management and fire prevention works all increased in the past 12 months," Mr Cowie said.
"These are excellent results for our organisation and a testament to the commitment and hard work of our staff across all Council services."
Nillumbik's Chief Operating Officer, Vince Lombardi said Council continued to manage its financial resources responsibly, keeping sustainability a priority, especially in the current unpredictable economic climate.
"The ongoing challenge remains securing alternate funding streams to maintain Council's infrastructure portfolio, and to ensure the future needs of the community continue to be met, while maintaining sustainability across all facets of Council," he said.
