With Round One of the 2024/25 Community Assistance Program opening in just a few days, Rockhampton Regional Council is inviting local community groups and not-for-profit organisations who have planned projects and upcoming events to apply.
Deputy Mayor and Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said the Community Assistance Program provides financial aid towards community activities, initiatives, and projects that are beneficial for the entire community.
"Whether you're planning a community development endeavour, an environmental project or a local event to enhance the community spirit, we invite you to apply when the next round opens on Monday, 27 May," Deputy Mayor said.
"There are five different funding categories to choose from, so whether your event is large or on the smaller side, there is a funding category for everyone.
"RockyStart Inc received $2,000 for today's Romp in the Park event through the program's Local Community Events Sponsorship category.
"Romp in the Park was one of 30 local community events and programs to receive a share in more than $109,000 in Round Two of 2023/24 CAP funding.
"The event is held as part of the Under-8s Week celebrations at the Panthers AFC Football Grounds and focuses on providing opportunities for children and families to play, which is achieved through local organisations coming together to provide free activities."
A total of 45 local organisations have registered, with each providing a different play experience and activity for the children who will come through the gates today.
Romp in the Park secretary Joanne Young said while the event has continued to grow, it remains a community focused event that requires volunteers and local funding to make it possible each year.
"Romp in the Park is run and organised by volunteers because we understand the event's value and importance. Without community support, it wouldn't happen," Ms Young said.
"The adage is that it takes a village to raise a child, and our Romp in the Park morning is a great, fun and inviting way for families to meet their village.
"Secondary to the play experience, the event is also an invaluable opportunity for families to meet and learn more about local service providers in our community.
"According to AEDC data, there is an increasing number of vulnerable children in our community, so this event is a great opportunity to provide a soft introduction between these families and local support services that can provide help.
"We are expecting this year's event to be bigger than last year. In 2023 we had just over 2,000 children attend and this year we are hoping to have 3,000 through the gates."
In its 2023/24 budget, Council invested a total of $298,000 across the Community Assistance Program. This supports year-round community development grants, regional and local events, and five major multiyear events held throughout the year.
Applications for Round One of the 2024/25 Community Assistance Program opens on Monday 27 May 2024.
