- The former PMH boiler house chimney stack has undergone a transformation with the completion of an iconic mural at the heart of the '1909' Subi East precinct
- Known as 'Here Together', this public artworkis now complete and will be lit up showcasing the sculptural neon lights visible during evenings
- 'Here Together' was created by a collaboration between local Perth artist Abdul Abdullah, and international artist MOMO from San Francisco
A major centrepiece of the Cook Government's redevelopment of the former Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) site has now been completed, with the former chimney stack being transformed into a striking public artwork.
Selected after a worldwide call out process, world famous artists 'MOMO' - aka David Momyer - of the United States, and Perth born Abdul Abdullah, have combined to transform the iconic 53 metre landmark.
The newly designed chimney stack will simultaneously pay homage to PMH's past, but also symbolise the dynamic revitalisation of the site into the new '1909' which forms part of the Subi East precinct.
Known as 'Here Together', the 360-degree artwork reflects the history of the site as a place of recovery, discovery, and community. It features a vibrant mural and sculptural lighting elements, that is designed to welcome people and generate a sense of joy.
The artwork combines MOMO's bold, colourful mural style inspired by the former 'Megazone' and 'Radio Lollipop' rooms at PMH, overlaid with Abdul's playful exploration of a universal visual language through sculptural neon light elements.
The '1909' is set to deliver a vibrant inner-city village in one of Western Australia's most desirable suburbs, by supporting high quality urban design, heritage protection, public art, and cultural activities that respond to the area's environment, climate, and lifestyle.

As stated by Lands Minister John Carey:
"It's brilliant to unveil this world class public artwork at the former Princess Margaret Hospital site.
"The '1909' Subi East redevelopment is a significant urban renewal project that will ultimately add more than 2,500 new homes in a boost to Western Australia's future housing needs.
"As we transform the '1909' precinct into a world-class, landmark inner-city precinct, we have worked hard to ensure that the history of the area, and its former use as WA's children's hospital is properly respected.
"The precinct will deliver crucial density in one of our State's most sought-after areas - providing housing in close proximity to the business hubs of the CBD and West Perth, as well as the popular entertainment districts of Subiaco and West Leederville."
Comments attributed to Nedlands MLA Dr Katrina Stratton:
"'1909' is set to breathe new life into the eastern end of Subiaco through its sustainable public open space areas, and will recognise notable PMH accomplishments, events and memories through stories, and images that bring the public spaces and paved areas to life
"This artwork is a celebration of children, and reminds us of the power of art to inspire, heal, and bring people together.
"Celebrating the cultural, historical, and social importance of the former children's hospital presents a fitting tribute to ensure the history of PMH is preserved for future generations."
