Police Air Wing And Canine Section Arrests

The WA Police Force has charged two males following two recent incidents involving Police Air Wing, the Canine Section and local police. The first incident occurred about 11pm on Sunday 6 October 2024, when Police Air Wing (PAW) began to monitor a silver Mitsubishi Pajero SUV as it travelled on Riseley Street in Booragoon. The vehicle had allegedly been involved in an earlier burglary in Hocking. The Mitsubishi travelled to Como before it stopped outside a home on Clydesdale Street, where two occupants exited the vehicle and fled the scene. A short time later, following communications between PAW, Fremantle Police and the Canine Section, two males were arrested nearby. Following a search of the area, police located and seized a small tomahawk, along with a round of ammunition and capsicum spray, which were found following a search of one of the males. Following inquiries, a 27-year-old Maylands man was charged with; • Criminal Damage or destruction of property, • Being armed in a way that may cause fear, • Driver of a Vehicle Failed to Comply with a Direction to Stop (circumstance of aggravation), • Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit by Police, • No authority to drive (disqualified), • Carried a controlled weapon, and • Unlicensed person possess firearm/ammunition. He is next due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today, Monday 14 October 2024. The second male was released without charge and inquiries are continuing. The second incident occurred about 8.15am on Wednesday 9 October 2024, when Armadale Detectives - with the assistance of PAW and the Canine Section - attended a home in Huntingdale to speak with a juvenile male in relation to a number of ongoing investigations. A short time later, a PAW Drone Pilot - who was monitoring the home - observed a male run through the backyard, jumping multiple fences in an attempt to escape police. Following communications between PAW and the Canine Section, the male was arrested as he ran through an alley way nearby. Following inquiries - in relation to separate incidents in Huntingdale, Langford and Maddington - a 16-year-old was charged with; • Aggravated home burglary and commit (two counts), • (ATT) Steal Motor Vehicle, • Steal motor vehicle, and • Stealing. The Waterford male is next due to appear in Busselton Children's Court tomorrow, Tuesday 15 October 2024. PAW Superintendent Paul Daly praised the work of the multiple police units involved in the above arrests, and the reassurance it provides the community. He said the incidents also highlight the importance of PAW's air assets to the WA Police Force and the community. "The presence of Police Air Wing - working highly effectively in conjunction with the Canine Section, detectives and local police - brings these kinds of incidents to a close, swiftly and safely," he said. "Our officers on the ground are often placed in situations of uncertainty and increased risk, so it's vital they are provided with support from above, via highly advanced aircraft and drone capabilities. "The message to anyone in the community thinking about committing crimes is simple. "Our officers on the ground might not see you, but we will locate and track you from above, you will be taken into custody and placed before the courts."
