Police Appeal for Leads in Matraville Crash Probe

Police are appealing for information following a serious crash in Sydney's east.

About 12.25pm on Saturday (22 March 2025), emergency services were called to Botany Road, Matraville, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police area command attended and found a van has crashed into a pole.

The driver – a 46-year-old man –self-extricated from the vehicle.

The front occupant - a 29-year-old woman – was trapped for some time before being extricated by the Police Rescue Squad.

Both occupants were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for further assessment and mandatory testing.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries, where she remains.

A crime scene was established, and investigations commenced by the Crash Investigation Unit into the circumstanced of the crash.

Inquiries are ongoing.
