Just after 11am on Sunday 20 February, police were called to Westfield Marion Shopping Centre at Oaklands Park after reports that a man had assaulted a number of girls and women.
Southern District patrols spoke to the young victims who indicated they were on a public bus travelling from Chandlers Hill Road at O' Halloran Hill to Oaklands Park shopping centre when a man assaulted one of them. The bus stopped at the Marion Interchange and the girls got off and entered the centre. The man followed them into the centre where he allegedly indecently assaulted one girl.
Other victim's also reported being indecently assaulted at the shopping centre between 10.30am and 11am today.
Police identified the suspect and a 29-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested at the scene. He was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and assault. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday 21 February).
The victims ranged in age from 12 to 27-years-old. They were not physically injured as a result of the incidents, however they were understandably distressed.
CCTV footage from the shopping centre indicates that the man appears to have assaulted five victims, however only four have been identified.
