Police are calling for witnesses after fatal single vehicle crash - Frankford Road, Birralee

Police are calling for witnesses following a fatal single vehicle crash on Frankford Road at Birralee in the early hours of this morning.

Police and emergency services attended a call to a single vehicle crash on Frankford Road about 2.5 kilometres east from the junction with Birralee Road near Birralee just after midnight.

Initial investigations indicate that a silver Mitsubishi Triton was being driven east when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a right hand bend. The vehicle crossed to the incorrect side of the road before leaving the roadway and colliding with a power pole.

The driver and passenger both suffered head injuries. The 27 year old male driver from Birralee of the vehicle was transferred to the Launceston General Hospital where he remains in a stable condition. His 18 year old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by Tasmanian Ambulance. Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones at this difficult time.

Police are investigating if alcohol was a factor in this fatal crash.
