Melton Highway Patrol officers are investigating after a fatal collision in Harkness this evening.
It is believed a car and truck collided on Old Western Freeway about 7.45pm.
The driver and only occupant of the car, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, who wasn't injured, also stopped at the scene and has spoken with police.
The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area with the roads expected to be closed for several hours.
