Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash at Invermay Park just outside of Ballarat overnight.
Local police patrolling the area came across the vehicle after noticing it had struck a tree on the Western Freeway just after 12.30am.
It is not known how long the vehicle may have been there.
The male driver, and only occupant of the car, sadly died at the scene.
The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined.
