Police Are Responding To Fatal Crash In Hawthorn East

Emergency services attended a single vehicle crash in Hawthorn East this afternoon.

It's believed a vehicle was traveling along Burgess Street just after 2.30 when the car veered off the road and crashed through a school fence.

The driver, a 40-year-old Hawthorn East woman, was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody.

Her passenger, a primary school aged child, was not injured.

One boy, aged 11-years-old, was taken to hospital with critical injuries but he has since died.

Two girls aged 11-years-old, one 10-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were all taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated by Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives.
