A passenger has been seriously injured after a crash in Sydney's east.
About 12.25pm today (Saturday 22 March 2025), emergency services responded to reports of a van crashing into a pole on Botany Road, Matraville.
The driver – a 46-year-old man – was able to self-extricate from the vehicle.
A 29-year-old woman who was seated in the front passenger seat was trapped by confinement. She was released from the vehicle at 1.45pm by officers from the Police Rescue Squad.
Both occupants were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The male suffered minor injuries and has been taken to St Vincent's Hospital as a precaution and for mandatory testing.
The female was taken to the same hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command have established a crime scene that is being examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
West bound lanes on Botany Road are currently closed between Bunnerong Road and Girawah Place and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
