Four males have been arrested following a pursuit in the state's Southern Region today.
About 10.15am (Thursday 10 June 2021), officers from Southern Region Highway Patrol detected a Subaru travelling west on the Illawarra Highway, Burrawang, allegedly in excess of the speed limit.
Officers attempted to catch up with the vehicle, but it managed to evade police.
Ten minutes later, officers sighted the vehicle on the Illawarra Highway at Moss Vale and a pursuit was initiated.
It was quickly terminated due to the Subaru's manner of driving.
About 10.50am the Subaru, again travelling at high speed, was seen heading south on the Hume Highway where it crashed into the rear of a Lexus being driven by a 60-year-old man.
The Subaru rolled a number of times before coming to a stop on the median strip, about 100m north of Tiyces Lane in Boxers Creek.
All four occupants got out and ran from the scene. Further police attended and gave chase resulting in the three occupants – including an 18-year-old man and two 14-year-old boys – being arrested.
The 17-year-old male alleged driver was also found nearby and allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test.
All four males were taken to Goulburn Police Station where the three occupants are assisting with inquiries, and the alleged driver was taken to hospital for treatment to a hand injury and will undergo mandatory testing.
The driver of the Lexus was not injured.
Charges are expected to be laid.
