Police Arrest in Alice Springs Stolen Vehicle Case 11 March

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 19-year-old male in relation to a stolen motor vehicle incident that occurred in Alice Springs overnight.

Around 12:10am this morning, police were notified of an aggravated burglary and stolen motor vehicle from a residence in Youl Court in Larapinta. The vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux, was sighted 15 minutes later driving in Larapinta by responding police.

A co-ordinated response involving police members from Southern Investigations, the Territory Safety Division (TSD), the Dog Operations Unit, the Tactical Response Group (TRG) and general duties members resulted in the successful deployment of tyre deflation devices a short time later, with three offenders fleeing from the vehicle on foot.

Patrol Dog Huey, with assistance from the police drone, tracked the offender believed to be the driver of the vehicle into scrubland behind Nelson Terrace, where he was arrested by members from the Tactical Response Group.

The 19-year-old has since been charged with:

  • Aggravated Burglary - Dwelling
  • Driving, Using Motor Vehicle Without Consent
  • Drive Unregistered Motor Vehicle
  • Learner Driver - No Person in Front Seat
  • Drive Without L Plates

He was remanded to appear in court today.

Superintendent of the Alice Springs Division Michael Budge said, "I commend the excellent work of all responding police who apprehended this offender within 30 minutes of the burglary occurring.

"Our members rapidly deployed and their outstanding collaborative work prevented the offenders from causing any further harm to members of the community on our roads."
