Police have arrested a 24-year-old man following an alleged firearms incident in Bellbrae on Friday evening.
Officers were called to an address on Cunningham Drive about 6.45pm after reports of an assault.
When they arrived at the address they were allegedly confronted by a man exiting the property armed with knives and a firearm.
The man attempted to enter a car to drive from the scene but police fired shots into the tyres of the car, making it undrivable.
The man then fled the address on foot.
A search for the man immediately began with the Police Air Wing, Critical Incident Response Team and Special Operations Group called in to assist local police.
The man was arrested around 9.30pm by members of the Special Operations Group and is currently assisting police with their enquires.
The incident is being investigated by detectives from Geelong Criminal Investigation Unit with oversight from Professional Standards Command which is standard practice when a police firearm is discharged.
